How are the Christmas plans coming along…..have you made any plans yet…. I have a feeling that very shortly we will be making a cunning plan and timetable for the lead up to the holiday and for each day during the holiday. Who is going when and where, who needs picking up and who is coming, what needs doing and when it needs doing by, what needs buying, what needs ordering. It’s good to have a plan and I love it when a plan comes together. Are you opening your advent doors or burning down your advent candle and watching it disappear as the day gets closer and closer.

It is of course Advent….the coming of or arrival of something important, the appearance of, the origin, the rise, the birth of…..Advent is the first season of the Church year, leading up to Christmas and including the four preceding Sundays. We celebrate the birth of Jesus, the Christ, the coming of the Saviour to a world in desperate need.

You can almost hear God saying …..I love it when a plan comes together.

A plan that has been in the making for a very long time…God had been telling His people about His plan for thousands of years. The majority of the Old Testament, 39 books, 30 different authors foretelling us about the coming of Jesus. The Old Testament points to this fantastic event, the arrival of the Messiah. There are many hundreds of prophecies written, relating to hundreds of specific events concerning Jesus and all written 400 years or more before His birth. And what a plan….a plan that had to be made, a plan that goes back to Adam and Eve. God created mankind in His own likeness and placed him in this wonderful world in the Garden of Eden. Our Father God wanted to have a personal relationship with Adam and Eve and did have until that fateful day. From that moment siin, death, disease and decay entered the world and man became separated from Father God. But God had a plan….Into the middle of this world there was a new hope for mankind. The Messiah will come offering hope, life and love into a world racked with hurt, hate and pain. You can almost hear God saying …..I love it when a plan comes together.

But God needed some players for His plan to come to fruition. God needed some help from normal folk for the plan to continue….Enter, Zechariah an old priest and his wife Elizabeth. Enter Mary a young teenage girl and Joseph who was engaged to her. And introducing a group of rough, smelly, unkempt ordinary shepherds minding their sheep and their own business on a hillside……These ordinary people played an amazing role in this extraordinary event. Which God had been planning from the beginning of time…..And they all played their part…… You can almost hear God saying …..I love it when a plan comes together. And this plan is of course the Christmas story, an amazing series of events with these ordinary people in this small area in the Middle East which changed the course of history for the whole of mankind.

And God has an amazing plan for each of us, which starts with us having a personal relationship with Him when we accept Jesus, the Messiah, the Saviour of the world into our lives. This Advent as we celebrate and welcome the arrival of Jesus into the world, why not welcome Jesus into your life and hear God saying I love it when a plan comes together.

Have a blessed and wonderful and peaceful time this Advent May the Lord bless you and keep you.    Pat
