We have been looking at love at link. Love is mentioned in the bible 551 times, 232 of which are found in the New Testament and 44 of which are found in 1John.

Love is top of the agenda for a Christian.

Ch 5 v1Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well.

  • I believe that Jesus is the Son of God….A good start.

  • I also believe that Theresa May is the Prime Minister of England.

  • I may not like it, but its true. They are two statements.

If I believe that Jesus is the Son of God in the same way that I believe Mrs. May is the PM, have I fulfilled the necessary conditions as verse 1 states, to be born again?

The kind of belief we just described regarding the PM doesn’t result in a relationship, it is simply an acknowledgement of a fact.

Belief in Jesus, involves acknowledging facts about Jesus, but it is more than that.

Knowing that Jesus is the Son of God doesn’t fulfill the conditions to be born of God, because even the devil believes that Jesus is the Son of God.

Believing in Jesus, knowing who Jesus is does not necessarily mean that you have a relationship with him. To be born of God means that I am now a member of His family, that I now have a relationship with Father God.

We are God begotten, we have been brought into existence, (our Spirit is made alive) by Father God, brought into His family, we have been born again, we are His children.

And as His children we can have a relationship with the Father…….

We, us, me and you, can have a relationship with the awesome God that spoke the world into being, it truly is mind blowing…

And when you believe in Him, when you are born again, when you have that relationship with Him, you surrender your life to Him, Jesus becomes our all in all, our Lord of Lords and King of Kings, Messiah, Saviour, healer, restorer, Prince of peace, The bright and morning star, the beginning and the end, the Alpha and Omega, our perfect Friend.

True belief in Jesus is seeing Him and knowing him for who He truly is, the One and Only Son of God, infinitely precious and valuable.

When the Holy Spirit begins to work in our lives we are not deceived by lies. We just want to know Jesus, be with Jesus, enjoy Jesus, follow Jesus, worship Jesus and celebrate Jesus

We have a saving, believing, faith in our Father in heaven and His Son Jesus.

So who is someone who is born of God, begotten by God…….

John in the first 5 verses of chapter 5 says that someone who is born of God

  1. Loves Gods people.

  2. Lives by God commands.

  3. Overcomes the world.

Intrigued, well, please listen to our podcast or stop me in the street.

Have a great summer.

May the Lord bless you and keep you.

Pat.

Beverley Street Angels continue to be out on the streets of Beverley on a weekly basis. Particularly now that the hot weather is upon us.

We will be particularly busy on Ladies day in August when we will be out and about from 6pm until 3am. In fact, I could well be out and about from 10am as part of the Race Course Chaplaincy team. (It could be a long day!)

We will be handing out many flip flops, bottled water and lollies as required.

Why lollipops I hear you say, well it is very difficult to look and sound “hard” holding and sucking a lolly! Do you know, all we do is walk around with a smile on our face and engage with people…… It’s good to talk and it is certainly good to smile! Please spare a thought and a prayer for the Angels between 2200 and 0300 on Saturday nights.
